For over ten years, local favorite, Greeley’s Reel has evolved into a popular, entertaining group amongst the musical talents of Newfoundland and Labrador, bringing traditional Irish, Newfoundland entertainment into the lives and homes of those both here at home and abroad. They have captivated many people throughout the world through their bone-chilling harmonies, their many ballads, shanties, and foot-stomping jigs and reels through hundreds of performed shows ranging from theatres to festivals to clubs.
In 2005, Greeley’s Reel released their self-titled debut album, followed by their second album, entitled “The Valley Road Sessions” in 2008. In November, 2010, Greeley’s Reel embarked on a journey to record their third studio album, but this time in front of a live audience at O’Reilly’s Irish Pub in St. John’s, NL. Released in June, 2011, the album, like the previous two, was proven to be very successful with material from all three albums receiving regular airplay nationwide on local radio stations.
During the summer of 2008, Greeley’s Reel self-wrote a hockey anthem in honor of local hockey hero, Daniel Cleary, of Riverhead, Harbour Grace; the first Newfoundlander to ever win “hockey’s holy grail” the Stanley Cup. The song received not only local, but national and international attention, being played all over Newfoundland radio, Canadian broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Television, NTV, as well as special presentation features by Fox Sports Network (FSN), The Score (Cabbie on the Street), and the NHL Network.
